Position Description


Lead and coordinate cost estimation, planning and configuration of production and prototype precision CNC machined parts. Document project assumptions. Reconcile estimates versus actuals. Reports to the President.

 

Responsibilities

  • Receive customer requests for proposal, and evaluate required documentation, CAD files and specifications. Create proposal template, part configuration and assess process requirements.

  • Interact with customer’s buyers and engineers to resolve missing or incompatible requirements.

  • Determine and collect required inputs from Production Manager(s), CAM Programmer(s), outside process vendors, material vendors. Inputs include labor estimates, fixturing, material, processing, tooling and yield loss. Initiate sub-tier Requests For Quotations (RFQ). Record inputs and assumptions in proposal template, part Bill-Of-Materials (BOM), and part traveler.

  • Capture and record actual project costs and processing. Reconcile actual project costs and processing versus project estimations.

  • Periodic travel may be required between Livermore and Morgan Hill facilities.

  • Follow established quality, maintenance, and safety standards.

Requirements

  • Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, bills of materials and work instructions. Knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) desirable.

  • Proficiency with Excel and ERP databases required. Experience with Solidworks, MasterCAM, PC-DMIS and/or Vericut desirable.

  • Machine shop experience quoting prototype and production precision parts with outside processing. CNC machinist and set-up experience with 5-Axis, 3-Axis Milling, Lathe and Mill-Turn Live Tooling CNC machines desirable.

  • Good judgment and problem solving skills. Organization and time management skills required.

  • Familiarity with the principles of Lean Manufacturing.

  • Ability to follow safety rules and procedures relating to business and quality processes.

  • Able to interface with company personnel and customer representatives.

  • Mechanical Engineering degree desirable or 2+ years experience in role as Manufacturing Engineer or Mechanical Engineer, CAM programmer or Mechanical Quality Engineer. Requires a high school diploma or its equivalent.

  • US Person (citizen or Green Card holder).
